THE CHAIR OF CYBERDEFENSE

La Chaire de Cyberdéfense et Cybersécurité Saint-Cyr, Sogeti, Thales

The scientific program of the Chair

The research of the Chair of Cyberdefense and Cybersecurity of Saint-Cyr, Sogeti, Thales is conducted around 5 main themes:
- Changes in the cyber domain and the Armed Forces
- Is the controlled territorialization of cyberspace possible?
- Human factors: who are the cyber fighters?
- Comparative studies of national strategies regarding cyberspace
- Measuring the extent of the threat

Changes in the cyber domain and the Armed Forces

To analyze for the Armed Forces: the impacts associated with the cyber domain on changes in the Armed Forces, cyber opportunities and threats, legal and ethical issues surrounding cyberconflict, military strategy, doctrine and tactics, and their consequences on the training of soldiers.

Is the controlled territorialization of cyberspace possible?

To study the frontiers of cyberspace and the national cloud (“le cloud souverain”). To build an internet that can be controlled by nations and used for their critical operations in areas such as health, energy, foreign affairs, etc. Does this still makes sense technically and economically?

Human factors: who are the cyber fighters?

To study the structures and methods of the actions of cyber fighters.
To analyze the human factors of cyberdefense.

Comparative studies of national strategies regarding cyberspace

To study and compare the national strategies of major countries and address issues of deterrence and reward. To explore the impacts of the fight for cybersecurity: Is there a strategic breakdown or are we in a technological evolution? Do we need a new doctrine for the use of forces?

Measuring the extent of the threat

To define the methods and measurement indicators (through evaluation and assessment) to assess the magnitude of cyberattacks.
